Excerpt from The Last Miles:
“Miles Alive” is a huge – 40,000 words! – chapter in The Last Miles that describes Miles’ last decade playing live
Miles Alive: Guitarist Garth Webber on hearing Miles play on-stage
“I remember the very first solo he played at the first gig I did with him. He started out his solo with the ‘ugly duckling’ of all notes. I thought ‘oh my God, what is he doing?’ Then, as he held this long note, he worked it until by the time he finished it was this thing of beauty that just sailed out into the room – this golden note. It was almost as if he had thrown a shapeless lump of clay on to a wheel and then made a beautiful work of pottery out of it.”
