In early April 2005, a major exhibition of the art of Miles Davis was held at The Gallery in Cork Street, London. The exhibition was put on by art dealer Keith Denney and Jo Gelbard, Miles’s last companion and long-time art collaborator. In fact, much of the artwork on show was the result of collaborations between Miles and Jo. Keith and Jo very kindly allowed my publisher and me to also use the event for the book launch for The Last Miles.
The gallery was packed, and visitors got to see some amazing artwork including the last painting Miles and Jo did together before he died. Also on show were several love notes sent from Miles to Jo (these were not for sale) and they showed a loving, sensitive side to Miles which will surprise those who always saw Miles as the menacing Prince of Darkness. Keith tells me there are also plans to display the artwork in Paris.
