Shout 12″ – Three track promo featuring ‘Shout,’ ‘The Man With The Horn’ and ‘Back Seat Betty’

‘Shout’ was remixed by DJ Jimmy Simpson, who is the brother of Valerie Simpson of Ashford & Simpson fame. For the remix, Simpson used a new rhythm section comprising of drummer Chris Parker, who talks about the session here.
The new bassist was Marcus Miller, who recalls his session being at Atlantic Studios in New York City. Chris Parker’s part was laid down at Sigma Sound Studios in NYC, so the two new musicians were not in the same room together.

Incidentally, the B-side tune on this release, ‘Back Seat Betty,’ was so-called because in 1969, Miles produced some sessions involving his then wife Betty Davis (née Mabry). During the sessions she recorded a song called ‘Politician Man’ which includes the line, “Come on back here to the backseat.”
