This DVD release (also on Blu-ray) features the music Miles played at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 8 1991 – barely three months before Miles died. It’s the same concert that is on the Montreux DVD boxed set featuring Gil Evans’s arrangements from Birth of the Cool, Miles Ahead, Porgy and Bess and Sketches of Spain. There is also extra content in the form of interviews with people such as the late Claude Nobs, the Montreux Jazz founder and promoter, and Gil Goldstein, who transcribed much of the music and played at the concert. There are also new liner notes from yours truly, which include interviews with several musicians who played with Miles in Montreux that day.
