Over the years, Miles named tunes after various friends and associates including producer Teo Macero (“Teo”), his first wife Francis Davis (“Fran Dance”), second wife Betty Mabry/Davis (“Mademoiselle Mabry”) and musicians such as Mtume, Billy Preston and John McLaughlin. He continued the trend in the 1980s and here are those whose names have been immortalised by Miles or associates who wrote for Miles.
Note: Miles also played a tune that has been called “Al Jarreau” and “Al Jarreau Tune”, but these are incorrect song titles. The same goes for another song that has been called “Wayne’s Tune.” Their origins and real titles can be found in my book The Last Miles.
