1986
January: Miles completes final sessions for Rubberband album.
February: Miles does first overdubs of “Can I Play With U?” with Adam Holzman.
Miles overdubs George Duke’s “Backyard Ritual.” Miles starts recording several tracks with Marcus Miller that would result in the Tutu album.
March: The Rubberband album is junked and Marcus Miller and Miles record several more tracks to produce Tutu. Miles and Holzman do second overdub session of Prince’s track – it is unreleased. Felton Crews joins Miles’s band. Mike Stern leaves Miles’s band

April: Robben Ford replaces Mike Stern.
June 15: Miles’s band plays at the Amnesty Concert at the Giants Stadium in New Jersey.
July 17: Miles plays at the Montreux concert. George Duke and David Sanborn join him on-stage.
Autumn: Tutu released to great acclaim. Miles records Street Smart soundtrack.
October: Garth Webber replaces Robben Ford. Darryl Jones rejoins the band.
December: Alto saxophonist Donald Harrison joins the band and plays alongside Bob Berg for a couple of weeks.

December 28: Guitarist Dewayne “Blackbyrd” McKnight and tenor saxophonist Gary Thomas join the band.
December 31: McKnight leaves the band.
